Acupuncture is an ancient form of alternative medicine that originated in China thousands of years ago.  It is a therapy that stems from Traditional Chinese Medicine and is based on a belief that vital energy or qi flows through our body via channels called meridians.  Each meridian is interconnected and corresponds to one organ or a group of organs that is  responsible for how the body functions.  The proper flow of qi within the meridians is essential in maintaining health emotionally, physically and spiritually.  When imbalance of qi occurs, where there is either too much, too little or the flow is blocked, the two complementary opposing energies that maintain health, that is yin and yang, also become disrupted. When this occurs our overall health and well being is affected and there is an occurrence of symptoms or ailments.  To harmonize the flow of qi, the balance between yin and yang, and ultimately health, acupuncture is performed where extremely fine needles are superficially inserted into points along the meridians.

Along with acupuncture,  Dr. Verma utilizes other forms of TCM in healing, Chinese herbals, IMG_1840 moxibustion and tuina.  Acupuncture treatments are individualized to each patient and each condition.  Ultimately, all treatments bring  tremendous benefits.  It is widely recognized by the World Health Organization and the National Institute of Health as a successful treatment for numerous conditions.  Research has shown that acupuncture causes the release of endogenous opiates within the body, which   display analgesic effects and serve as the body’s natural pain killers.  By stimulating points along the meridians, the immune system is enhanced by decreasing the levels of pro-inflammatory cytokines and  increasing anti-inflammatory cytokines and white blood cells responsible for healing.  Another one of the many physiological effects is the release of serotonin, a neurotransmitter commonly known for relieving anxiety and bringing on happiness.  The list of healing benefits found clinically and scientifically go on and continue to be discovered.  Below is an abbreviated list of conditions that can be treated with acupuncture.  Please feel free to contact the doctor with any questions.
